My wife and I stayed at the Crowne Plaza, 101 Olympic Ave., Lake Placid, NY 12946 on August 27 , 2011 for a wedding. I did a very quick and cursory check of the mattress seams for signs of bed bugs. I saw 2 little bugs but just thought they were dead black flies. it was a quick check because the internet sites showed nothing for this hotel so I did not worry.

The next morning, August 28 my wife woke up with numerous (around 20) bug bites that were red, itchy and oozed a little fluid or blood (probably from her scratching). I received 2 bites on my stomach that didn't really bother me. Her bites were on her hands, arms, legs, and torso. 

Over the course of the next week, these bumps have enlarged and flattened out, though there is significant swelling in the areas of the bites and the redness remains (again, perhaps due to scratching?). The itching is driving her nuts. I have no itching. 

We cannot say for sure that these were from bed bugs, but they are unlike any insect bites either of us have ever received.

We left early that morning because we knew Hurricane Irene was arriving. When we called the front desk that day, they said to put calamine lotion on and it was probably from mosquitoes. We did not see one mosquito on this trip. We explained what we had seen on arrival and the front desk said that the power was off and they did not have the ability to search our room at the time. I asked them to call me back. We never heard back. My wife and I lead very busy lives and made a great effort to attend this wedding. Taking the time to write this report is only because I would hate to see the same thing happen to anyone else.
