Stayed there in January 2012 (9-18). On our first wake up we found a dead bed bug and I had bityes on my leg. Reported it to management and they have done nothing but lie and deny. Do a google search of the words equus and bedbugs - I am not alone. Avoid this hole!

We stayed there for a week, about halfway thru the trip we started itching like crazy. Once we were home god about a week we had finally stopped itching. We had sores all over our body... Yuck never staying there again

Kona Islander Inn Hotel

When I arrived at hotel there was a mattress lying against the wall next to my hotel. I didn't put two and two together but I'm assuming it was from bugs. I stayed in hotel 2 nights and woke up to see bug crawling across bed. I captured it and found numerous other adult bugs under mattress. I left with refund but had to go back for full refund cus they wanted me to PAY for the two nights there!!
Bites appeared exactly 8 days later. I walked by room few days later and the matress was gone but couch was still in there!!!! Room was nasty and gross.

Kula Lodge and Restaurant

We picked up bed bugs in unit #5 which is situated down the hill and to the left of the restaurant as you drive in. To be fair about bed bugs, it is an epidemic nationwide and a global problem so I do not fault them and frankly, I would not be writing this review if I felt they were handling the situation appropriately. We stayed there one night and then subsequently three other places on the remainder of our vacation. The next day, my husband noticed a few bites and did not think much about it. By the time we got home, he was covered with bites and I had seen this problem with other friends. I immediately stripped our bed to find a single bed bug. I immediately started to call everywhere we stayed starting with Kula Lodge. Dennis who said he was one of the managers immediately asked if I was the mother-in-law. and I said no. He admitted someone brought bed bugs in around Thanksgiving and they had a few complaints and one customer actually brought two bed bugs to them! He droned on about fumigating and how they did not put anyone in the room for "a day" and he personally taped the legs so they could not crawl up the furniture. I said, I am here to tell you that you still have a problem as of late November. He blatantly denied the possibility of having them. It was clear to me that they did not have a professional exterminator come in because it is not a one day treatment and furthermore, if you are seeing the bugs, you have a real infestation that requires aggressive treatment that requires the room to be vacant a few weeks due to the life cycle of the bugs. He never asked for my name and did not offer an apology, etc. etc. I was appalled because my experience with the restaurant was the total opposite. So, I am looking at about $800-$1,000 to clear two rooms in my home and a hallway, another $2K for our two friends apartments in Honolulu and thank goodness the Hilton Las Vegas actually thanked us for calling promptly, took our names and contact information and wished us well. So, this has been about a $3K bed bug experience and we are lucky because we caught it so quickly. Kula Lodge needs to be taking this VERY SERIOUSLY!

Found a least 6 live bugs crawling on pillows, in bed netting, and on sheets.

Found live bug on arrival and room they moved us to also had clear evidence of bed bug feces on linens in this room as well.

Checked 3rd floor room for bedbugs upon arrival and found live bug, and lots of feces on sheets. Caught bug and took it to reception desk. They offered another room on 2nd floor, but found evidence of bedbug feces on bed linens there as well.

I would wake up every morning with huge red bites on my legs and arms. Horrible experience could not enjoy sleeping in our room. Then being in public in shorts was very embarrassing.

Both rooms were contaminated. I sprayed lysol but that only killed bacteria and germs not bed bugs.
