Ritz-Carlton Highlands Court
13031 Ritz-Carlton Highlands Court
Truckee, CA
This report is for the Ritz-Carlton Highlands Court (13031 Ritz-Carlton Highlands Court, Truckee, CA 96161) I stayed at this hotel from 7/5/11-7/7/2011. We stayed on the 4th floor. On the night of 7/5/11 something bit me in the middle of the night and I woke up to find a line of 10-11 bug bites on my back. I called the front desk in the morning and told them what happened and they transferred us to a different room. I returned home on 7/7/2011 and on the morning of 7/11/2011 I woke up to find myself speckled with bites - on my feet, legs, arms, head and torso. I started to suspect something might not be right and called Orkin. They came that day and inspected my bedroom and found one dead bedbug and evidence that I had been bitten in my bed (spots of dried blood on my sheets). I proceeded to pay for their services to kill (what I hope was) all the bedbugs in the house, which if you have ever been through it, is an incredibly expensive, inconvenient and emotionally challenging process. I called the Ritz-Carlton and reported the problem and they are denying that the bed bugs came from their hotel. They are claiming that the rooms were inspected by their “in house” exterminator and came up clean. They promised to refund the cost of my stay which did not come close to covering the expense I incurred with Orkin, and does not eliminate the risk to me, my boyfriend and my 14lb dog who now must live in a house coated with pesticides. If you ever suspect that you may be staying in a hotel room infested with bed bugs, before you switch rooms ask that the room be inspected immediately (check the closets and cracks around the carpets, plus the bed) and ask that your clothing, (belongings) and luggage be dry cleaned or washed/dried at high heat. Take all precautions possible to make sure you do not bring them home with you. I understand that we share the world with insects and sometimes they get into hotel rooms, but we can prevent them from entering our homes and turning our world upside down.
