BED BUG ALERT: My family stayed here 9/19-9/22. We left the hotel for several hours on 9/21. When we returned, housekeeping had made our beds with new linens - per the front desk. Hours later, I was woken up to a bed bug crawling on my pillow. We immediately got up, at midnight, brought the live bed bug to the desk. Raja, the front desk employee, confirmed that it was a bed bug. We weren't able to leave, so he relocated us a different room, that he claimed he would "personally inspect" to ensure there would be no issues. Upon arriving to this new, "inspected" room, we immediately noticed an open, half full beer can. The quality assurance of this place is CLEARLY lacking. Raja took down my contact information to forward to the owner, and stated I would be contacted the next day. The next day, after receiving no communication, I called the hotel. I was notified that the owner, Sanjay, was out of the country for another week. Why did they tell us we would be contacted the next day? Another question that has yet to be answered from this place. Also, the desk had no idea of any bed bug incident, and took down my information, again. They also stated that the room with the live bed bug was not closed off at all to future customers. I waited until Sanjay was back, still no contact. I did not receive ANY communication until 17 days after we found the bug.....17 days, after multiple phone calls to them, giving them my information at least 5 times - after they admitted that nobody had my information at all! When the owner contacted me, he was extremely unprofessional and condescending. He claimed that his hotel does not have any bugs, even though I brought it to them alive. He refused a refund of our full stay. He claimed that we brought the bug in, or that it could've been "a woodchip". He claimed that there was no reason for a refund, because the staff relocated our room. To add to this, we had to heat all of our belongings in the industrial dryers to kill any eggs or bugs that were hiding in our clothes from the room. This led to multiple shoes being ruined, bags, clothes that were melted and shrunk - all at 2 in the morning. Exactly how we wanted to spend our vacation! Sanjay had nothing to say about the beer can in the room or our belongings that were ruined, not a huge surprise! We contacted the local health department on 10/9, who claimed that Sanjay nor Best Western had reached out to them regarding any bed bug inspections. They had not reported the incident at all. We reported this, and they went to do an inspection on 10/10 - strictly due to US making the phone call. They would not have been there at all if we wouldn't have reached out. The department stated that bed bugs are hard to find unless the place is completely infested, and because it was so long ago (almost 3 weeks at this point), they weren't likely to find anything. Had this been reported to the health department in a timely matter, which I would think would fall on the hotel owner, not the guest, maybe it would've been caught. No bed bugs were found after the health inspection, so again, Sanjay played the game "my hotel doesn't have bugs". He continues to fail to understand that just because bugs were not found THREE WEEKS later, doesn't mean there weren't bugs when we stayed there - bugs that the front desk confirmed. I never made any claims of an infestation, I simply stated that there was a bug in our room. He refuses to believe this, even though it was confirmed by staff. I've attached images of the bug and beer can with date, time, and location stamps. I beg you not to stay at this hotel. Save your time, money, belongings, and sanity. Dealing with this place was absolutely ridiculous and Sanjay was the most stubborn, unprofessional "owner" of any business I've had the "pleasure" of dealing with. Our stay here cost us well over $1,000 - between the hotel itself and all of our belongings that were ruined, and after 5 weeks - he refunded me $100. I would rather sleep on the curb in a parking lot than ever step foot in this place ever again.
