9/6 Discovered live bed bugs in my hotel room during a professional conference. When I reported it, the front desk receptionist gave little guidance beyond moving me to another room. Only later did I learn laundry facilities were available onsite (heat kills bed bugs immediately). My suitcase was open in the room all day which is so stressful. All my items were at risk of being infected. Ultimately I chose to move to another hotel across the street due to the lack of clear protocol or support. I also had to take multiple Ubers to a coworker’s home to attempt to decontaminate (dry my items in a dryer). The general manager, John, did follow up, apologized, comped my room, and offered to dry my clothes and “disinfect my suitcase” (though it was unclear what that entailed). While I appreciate the gesture, the lack of clear protocol at the time was distressing and left me vulnerable to contamination risk. -- Photographic and video evidence available. -- Marriott management acknowledged the issue but the experience was disruptive and damaging to confidence in the brand. -- Strongly recommend other travelers inspect the room thoroughly before settling in.
