I was bit by bedbugs in an upstairs guest bedroom rental at Fripp Island Golf and Beach Resort at 38 Davis Love Drive, Fripp Island, SC 29920. My stay was Aug. 1, 2020 through Aug. 8, 2020. By the end of the week, those bites hurt in ways I can’t describe. The nearly 80 bites, which I did not know were bedbugs at the time, did not all pop up at once. However, on our last day, I was covered in bites all over my chest, back, arms, neck, legs, near my bottom, feet and even on my face. As everything unfolded upon returning home, I ran a low-grade fever and broke out in hives; the doctor I saw said it was likely bedbug bites and told me to have my family contact Fripp resort. My mom contacted Fripp on Aug. 11. They told my mom that a family was staying there currently, but after they left the house, they would have an exterminator come and inspect the room and the house. Eleven days later, my mom received a call on Aug. 30 stating that the report was positive for bedbugs. My mom requested that they email her the report from the exterminator. She was told that that the request, on her behalf, was made and that the insurance company would handle it from here on out. However, due to the wildfires out west, this was a very long wait. When I finally spoke to the insurance adjuster. He said that I was not privy to the pest inspection report. Yet, he read me parts of the report and inferred from the pest company’s report that I was one that brought the bedbugs to the house. They did cover my medical expenses for doctors visits and prescription drugs.
