Owner Greg showed us room 15, which he said had been unoccupied for a few months. We took the room on June 26th. The building is swarming with flies, so when we noticed some bug bites, we thought they were biting us as we moved into the room By July 1st, we had so many bites that we suspected bed bugs. Sure enough, my husband lifted the box spring off the frame and found one crawling! We went straight to the office and told the person at the front desk. We were told an exterminator couldn't be there until the following day, and we were moved to a smaller standard motel room (17). The housekeeper took ALL of our clothes and dried them on hot, and the owners gave us quarters to wash and dry everything that was dirty in their coin-op machines, to prevent spreading the infestation. The housekeeper even folded everything for us and bagged it neatly, which we really appreciated. The day after the exterminator treated the efficiency, we were told to move back into room 15. We immediately found another few bugs and were advised it was normal for them to basically come out and die. After a few more days and several more bites, we went to the office again to let them know. We repeated the entire process - move, hot-dry the laundry, exterminate, return. This time, the exterminator explained it's okay to return because it's safe in terms of chemicals, but the bugs can remain for up to 14 days following treatment. A week later, they sent a bug sniffing dog (is that really a thing?) and the dog and handler said it looks like we're all good. On July 18th, we left for a 2 night camping trip. We returned on Monday 7/20. As the week progressed, we were noticing new bed bug bites again! We didn't want to believe it, but of course we found another bedbug right away upon searching. At this point, it seems that the infestation exists behind the wall. We asked to move to room 17 indefinitely, since several guests had since stayed there seemingly without an issue. They tell us they charge $150 a night for the room, but they're willing to give us the room for the price of the efficiency! No cooking amenities, a tiny fridge, no cabinets for food and dishes. I tried to negotiate pricing within reason, and the owner Maggie said she would speak to her husband about it. When we returned later that night, she told us they had decided to treat both rooms 15 and 17 so "We can't do it" was her exact wording. It was 10 pm, and we were put out to the street with our 8 and 4 year old children. We went and packed out the rest of our things from the room and left.
