Do not stay at The Kahler Grand Hotel. I checked into the hotel on July 19,2020. The first morning after checking in, I had a bed bug on my clothes. I showed the manager the bedbug, and she gave me a roll of quarters for me to wash and dry my clothes. She refused to have the hotel pay to fumigate my luggage bags. She did move me to a newly remodeled room. I asked her, “I am checking out on the 25th, and checking back in under another reservation because I wasn’t able to add additional nights to my original reservation at the same price I paid. She said she sees that. She went onto say, “When you check out and back in, you will need to move your things out of the room you’re staying in or pay $30 extra per night to stay in that room.” I asked why, and she replied, “Because we upgraded you due to inconvenience of bedbugs under this reservation, you don’t have any issues with the next reservation.” So she is going to inconvenience me more now by making me move rooms. The next morning I was in a Mayo Clinic elevator, and I overheard someone saying there are bedbugs in the room they’re staying in. I asked which hotel?, and they said The Kahler Grand Hotel. To make matters worse, on my way back from my appointment, I seen housekeeping taking out the mattress in the newly remodeled room next to mine. I asked the lady if someone reported bedbugs in that room, and she said yes. I called the county health department, and they said if the room next to mine has bedbugs, then yours more than likely does too, because you share a wall. They should move you and pay to have someone clean your luggage bags and clothes because bedbugs can get into luggage and lay eggs that you can’t see. They should be moving everyone next to the infested room as well as across from, above, and below and at least take out the bedding and mattress and use a heater to heat those rooms at 130 degrees for a few hours. At the end he told me I should be demanding and he couldn’t believe how the hotel handled the situation. After I got off the phone with the health department I left my room and put my hand on the infested room to see if I could feel the heat from the room, and I didn’t. I put my ear up to the door to hear a heater humming or buzzing, and it was dead silence. They just removed the mattress and bedding, leaving any other bedbugs in the room. I went downstairs to talk to the manager. She seen me and said she’ll be with me next. They started getting busy checking people in, so when she came over to me I politely told her I see you’re busy, so please call my room. I gave her my room number. She said she would in a little bit. I never heard from her. No phone call.

I stayed at Kahler Grand Rochester across from Mayo Clinic last night (Monday 5/1/23). The hotel is old, run-down and dirty but the bedding looked and smelled clean. This morning I went to Mayo Clinic for a diagnostic procedure that required me to undress. I was covered in red welts that mostly went in straight lines. I asked the doctor to take a look. She said it looked like bug bites and prescribed a hydrocortisone cream. The bites didn’t begin itching until later that day and I had looked in the mirror the previous afternoon before sleeping there so I know the bites were fresh and occurred while sleeping in Kahler Grand. When picking up the cream at the pharmacy, I told the pharmacy technician what happened and she said that numerous people have complained about bed bugs at Kahler Grand. I was shocked and appalled. I was able to cancel the rest of my stay but they refused to refund my night there. I had to bag up all of my stuff including my brand new $150 pillow I have to take with me when I travel due to medical issues, find a new hotel last minute, and pay to launder every item of clothing and bag I brought on my trip in addition to wiping down everything else. An unbelievably stressful way to spend my first day without kids in 4 years and not at all what I hoped to do in between diagnostic appointments today. Disgusting and very frustrating.
