Bed bugs found on 5/3/20 Found bed bugs in my room, staff treated the situation like it was no big deal, horrible customer service

1. December 5, 2025 (evening)- December 7, 2025 (morning). My family and I (4 year old daughter with eczema, and two parents in their 60s) stayed at the Holiday Inn Express & Suites in Sylva, North Carolina from Friday, December 5th - Sunday, December 7th. My family and I always check for bed bugs and overall cleanliness wherever we stay, and this time was no different. I checked for bed bugs and did not find anything (for the record, this was my first time staying in a hotel this year so there is no way I could have been the source of the bed bugs). We checked in Friday evening, and Saturday morning I noticed some itchy, red bumps on my stomach. I mentioned it to my parents and checked my daughter for bites as well as checking the bedding again. I still did not find anything. We stayed at the hotel again on Saturday night and Sunday morning, I found even more bites on myself (both arms, right hand, under my chin, and on my back). I searched my daughter and my hotel bed yet again, and this time I found a live bed bug on my pillow. I called the hotel front desk right away and they told me to flush the bed bug and management would get back to me. Later that morning, management came to my hotel room and we searched the hotel bedding together but did not find any more bed bugs. While we were searching the bedding, the general manager found an empty package of candy wedged between the mattress and the headboard. After pulling out the empty package of candy and tossing it on the bed I asked them "what is that?" of which they responded, "I don't know, it was behind the bed", to which I replied, "that is not mine", and they said, "well that is a problem". I showed the manager the video of the bed bug and they admitted that it was a bed bug and was very apologetic. They compensated our room, promised another compensated stay should we ever come back out that way, and provided trash bags to contain my luggage for the drive home.
