We stayed at North Beach Plantation from 3/9 - 3/12 - two moms and three college student girls. We have stayed there before and our relatives stay there every year during the summer. It is a very nice hotel, however, after we checked out we got breakfast at a restaurant down the street. My friends daughter said her arm was itching and my friend asked to see her arm - there were many bug bites. Another one of the girls had a couple of bug bites on her forehead. My friend who travels with her job almost weekly said they were bed bug bites. I said are you sure because if they are then we need to take extra precautions before we get home with all of our clothes. We decided to go right back to the hotel. It was already after checkout time and our card key did not work. I told my friend that they would never let us back in to check on bed bugs so I told them my daughter lost an earring and they let us back in. We were in a 3 bedroom and immediately went to the room the girls were staying in. My friend found two bed bugs and took pictures. The gentlemen who was with us called the head housekeeper. She came in and inspected and said she didn't see any bedbugs. So we said well what are these and she said those could be roaches and they would have to call a third party to verify. She then told us to go to the front desk where we checked in to speak to the manager. I got in line and when it was my turn, I asked for the manager and they said that she was on the phone and would be right out. 15 - 20 minutes later we are still waiting for the manager. I see someone from the back office come out and I ask her is she is the manager and she said they manager was not there. I told her that the front desk said she was on the phone - which one is it. Then she said that she was on the phone. We waited a little longer and then someone else came out of the back office to help with a guest who had an issue with her credit card. I went back to the front desk and waited until this person was finished and the "manager" saw me and asked my name. She said she already heard from the head housekeeper that there was nothing there. I said she is lying. We have evidence. She then asked me and the other mom to come in to another office. I explained everything and she said they have to get third party verification. I told her that until they do that they should not put anyone else in that room. She was not happy that I didn't tell them the real reason why we wanted to go back in the room. I said and this is the reason why. Your head housekeeper is trying to deny it and we have evidence. What do you think would have happened if we told them we thought there were bed bugs in there? They would have never let us back in. She would have denied it. I don't think she knew we took pictures. She asked to see the pictures and then told us she wasn't the real manager she was just in charge for that shift. She asked me to send the pictures to Shannon.Cox@northbeachrentals.com. Shannon would be in the office the next morning (Friday) and contact me. Friday afternoon I called and they said Shannon was at lunch and they would leave a sticky on her PC so she would see it when she came back. This afternoon, I called the front desk and spoke with John Stephan who said Shannon was not there and he would leave her a message. He asked me what room I was in and then he said that they had a third party come out and there were no bed bugs. I asked him what the bugs were in the pictures if they weren't bed bugs. He said that he would leave Shannon another message to call me. I told him that we have stayed there and my relatives have stayed there before with no issue and the one time I have an issue we get the run around. We had to go to a laundromat and wash all of our clothes before we could go back to our homes. Shannon never returned my calls, however, they sent me an email survey and I gave them a bad rating. I received this email response "Please accept my apologies for any inconvenience you experienced while staying with us. I'm so sorry the girls got bit. We did have a professional come out and inspect the unit thoroughly and found no evidence of bed bugs". I can't believe that the hotel doesn't have the decency to speak with me. I believe after we left they cleaned the room to eliminate the two bed bugs we found. They were dead. I would like to see the third party verification and would like for both the head housekeeper, myself and the other mom who was with me to all take lie detector tests.
