I woke up on 11/18/19 and noticed a string of bites on my right arm while in the shower. Went over to the bed, pulled back the covers and pillow, and immediately saw two bedbugs crawling around. I ended up finding over 100 bites all over my body, and subsequently developed a severe allergic reaction to the bites over the course of the next 2 weeks—extreme swelling, burning, and itching. I still have scarring. After calling in an exterminator the same day I reported it, the hotel confirmed with me that my room did have a pre-existing bedbug infestation. Hotel’s handling of the situation was, for the most part, excellent. They were responsive and empathetic, and offered to cover the cost of a bedbug inspection at my home to make sure I hadn’t brought them back. The only annoying aspect was that as soon as I presented them with an itemized reimbursement request (for the belongings I had to discard—reasonable and not excessive, in my opinion) they immediately cited the “high dollar amount” and shuttled me to their insurance company. I did finally receive restitution but it was a process which dragged on for more weeks than it should have.
