Recommended tips after hotel check-in:
1. Pick up the mattresses in the rooms and look under it. Check around the edges of the box springs.
2. Check under the box spring.
3. Lift up each headboard an lay it on the bed. Carefully inspect the hole where the headboard was lifted out of. Also, inspect all niches and corners of the headboard.
4. If you decide to stay in the hotel, do not put any clothes in dressers. Keep them in your luggage and your dirty clothes in plastic bags.

I stayed at the Kimpton Cardinal hotel in Winston-Salem NC July 28-Aug 1, 2019. I discovered suspected bed bug bites July 31. While the hotel manager moved my room and compâ€™d my stay, she refused to confirm that I was, in fact, attacked by a bed bug infestation. Over two days, I asked repeatedly, but she refused to share inspection results with me. In the airport on my way home, an insurance representative left me a message to call him the next day, with no affirmation or denial of a bed bug attack. By this time, not having the information to protect my my fellow travelers, we were all infected. The anxiety and frustration caused by hotel managementâ€™s refusal to disclose important health and safety information amounts to abuse. I recommend that this hotel is (1) inspected thoroughly for health and safety issues (2) there is considerable training and remediation for management to protect and respect guests.
