BED BUGS!!! BED BUGS!!! BED BUGS!!! If you value your home and everything you worked for in life, STAY AWAY FROM THIS HOTEL!!! I checked in late afternoon on Aug 1, 2019. The front desk staff was great. Got to my room and it was FREEZING. That was the first clue. I decided to take a rest before finding a spot to eat dinner. I laid down on the bed, but it was so cold, I had to go under the covers. I shut my eyes for a few minutes and felt something on my face. Assuming it was an eyelash or something, I lifted my head up and sort of swiped my face and that’s when a lovely bed bug fell to the pillow. I jumped out of bed. I had never seen a bed bug in person but it was the reddish-brown color and I watched it scurry over the pillow and disappear into the bedding. They’re faster than you would imagine. They are also not microscopic as I had always imagined. I then quickly grabbed my things and was out the door in sixty seconds. In the safety of my car, I googled and confirmed what I saw. Oh, and guess what? One of the myths circulating is that freezing temperatures will deter and/or kill them. Upon immediately reporting it to the front desk, the agent was very calm. Too calm. He had been trained. He simply said I can move you to another room. He didn’t say he would call a manager. He didn’t say he would send someone to have the room inspected. He just offered another room as if I had complained about something benign like a cigarette smell or something. I said no I was checking out. I had been there less than an hour. I said I wanted a refund. He said to take up the issue with Booking. I asked if this was the first he was hearing of the problem. He said yes. I said so no one has mentioned this? He said something about people seeing “bugs” on the far side of the building. After this simple exchange, I went to my car to book another hotel. I sat in the heat of my car for over an hour in the parking lot because I was too scared to sit in the lobby while I looked for another hotel on my phone. I was able to book another hotel, thankfully, albeit more expensive. I also disposed of all my clothes and undergarments that I was wearing just to be safe. EVEN hotels denied my claim. They also stated I was “hostile and belligerent” which is a complete lie. I’m not sure if that came from Louis at the front desk, or if the manager who deals with Booking.com decided to lie to make me look unfavorable. The also tried to say I used the hotel and left. I was there for less than an hour. I also booked another room that was even more expensive through Booking at a different hotel for the same night. Why would someone who was trying to get over on a hotel book and pay for another that’s even more expensive? Then I turned to trip advisor and see a review from the month before of someone saying there was a “strong chemical odor” that was emanating from the carpet. Please check out that review. They were probably exterminating this problem. Three calls/voicemails to management (Christine). Zero calls returned.
