1. Date and Time of incident: Check in occurred evening of 3/10/19. Itching, scratching, and discomfort from insect bites occurred a few days after. I returned a bedding blanket to the hotel staff prior to heading to the doctor telling them it itched my skin, asking if it had been laundered, and asking for a clean blanket which I was given. My doctor was not available until 3/18/10, and at this point I had over 20 areas of my skin with raised angry red blotches which had grown in size, number of bumps per blotch, and the pain from the constant irritation and scratching was unbearable. The doctor confirmed 100% they were bed bug bites. 2. Management handled it in this manner: Notified management I had to spend the night with a friend after the doctor diagnosed me with bed bug bites as I did not feel comfortable returning until maids were there to change the sheets and inspect the room. Front desk lady had maid and maintenance then accompany me to my room to verify that there were bed bugs. After they both lifted the bed up, the maid stated, “Oh yes. Look at this area on the underneath of the mattress. There is a colony.” She had circled an area with her finger. Then I heard the front desk lady on the maid’s walky-talky say she would send the hotel manager over to handle the situation. When the manager arrived, he told me he would switch me rooms, but all of my clothes and belongings would have to be laundered first for safety. Then the manager smiled out of the corner of his mouth before attempting to make me his scapegoat by stating, “Who’s to say you didn’t bring them in?” I was shocked and appalled at his inability to take responsibility for the bed bugs, but it doesn’t take a genius to figure out his angle and what he was trying to get away with here. However, he pointed a finger at a frequent guest who had hitherto spent over $1000 in his establishment, is a super clean private chef, and who has never had nor consulted a doctor before for bed bug bites. The manager also did not offer to pay my $180 doctor bill, did not comp me for the room I could not stay in Monday night, nor for the waste of Tuesday when I returned to do 4 loads of laundry, pack all of my belongings, and switch to the down-graded room to then re-unpack all of my belongings. After being traumatized and having my body and belongings infected, I also had to miss two days of work so far due to the risk of infecting my coworkers. I have to treat the remainder of my belongings with heat, cold, insecticides, or dispose of them, so there is still much more time, work, and money this is going to cost me under extremely aggravating conditions.
