Bedbug Reviews

Anonymous

This happened in the wee hours of Feb 9th, 2019. I went to lay down, moved the pillows around, and saw a small brown bug crawling on the pillow. A family member had already checked the other bed, and it was fine. I had checked the sheets on this one, but not the pillows. I took a cotton ball with acetone on it and gently squeezed to kill it. I said something to my family members, who then proceeded to pick up another of the pillows. Again, a small brown bug was crawling on another of the pillows. Not having had bed bugs but having heard horror stories and working in a career in healthcare with the public, we called the front desk immediately to report and ask if they have had any problems with bed bugs previously. They said they had NOT, but that they’d send a maintenance worker up to the room. The maintenance man got up to our room, took one of the bugs (the other we apparently hadn’t killed enough because it was no longer on the cotton ball), and put it in a cup. One of my family members then asked (again) if they had any history of bed bug problems. He said “not in this—“ and cut off his sentence. My family member then asked “were you going to say room?” He said “we have not had any reports of bed bugs.” He then said he would go talk to a manager about getting us a different room. At this point, my family and I are absolutely horrified and are halfway tempted to sleep in the car—although now, we’re worried about getting bed bugs in our brand new SUV by transmission of ourselves and our luggage that has been exposed to small brown bugs that appeared at us to be bed bugs in the early stages of their lives. He came back up several minutes later with two keys to a room down the hall. I asked him to go check the room over for us before we moved all of our stuff. He was gone for two minutes, came back in and said it was fine. Which maybe he actually did look the room over—but even still, this whole situation was making us itch all over. We moved our stuff, and proceeded to lift all mattresses up, inspect the head boards, and look at the pillows out of their cases. By this point, it was two in the morning. We finished up and everything *looked* to be clear of all “bed bug signs” we found on several different websites. We went to bed. Got up later this AM, and went to speak to management. They REFUSED to comp our room, saying they needed a “specialist” to inspect and prove that they were bed bugs before they’d consider refunding our money. The room cost well over $120. There was no offer of anything to improve our experience. We walked out of a HILTON carrying our luggage in BLACK PLASTIC TRASH BAGS to ensure that if we did have bugs in our things, we don’t bring an infestation into our vehicle. As soon as we are home, we will have to dry everything we had with us in the dryer on high for at least 30 minutes to ensure that if any tiny brown bugs hitched a ride home with us, they’ll be killed. This entire experience was absolutely horrifying. The managers were incredibly unhelpful. Do NOT stay at this hotel expecting a quality experience. Do NOT stay at this hotel if you want to ensure that you won’t bring home “extra friends” from your trip that will feast on you in the middle of the night when you’re asleep. Do NOT stay at this hotel if you want to wake up in the morning and not feel itchy. This all being said, I don’t blame the maintenance man at all. I do, however, blame poor management and a lack of thorough inspection between guests to make sure that all precautions are being taken to prevent this. Even if they weren’t bed bugs, they still had TWO BUGS in the bed (that appeared to us to look like bed bugs based on picture comparison on the internet).
