I checked in, had dinner out, then came back went to bed. At 11p I woke up from a scratching / itching sensation. I looked to see a bed bug on my arm. I then found 10-15 more after turning on the lights. Mostly pillows and sheets. I called the front desk and they said they had no more rooms. I took a shower, threw away the clothes I was sleeping in, and inspected my luggage. Luckily it was on a luggage shelf and thus not really a potential target for bugs. I searched online (at now approaching midnight) and all other hotels were either sold out or $100 more per night. (I was on a per diem for a work trip). The front desk zero'd out my balance (not charging me anything). They said they couldn't pay the difference between my original rate at Hampton and the current last minute (mostly sold out) rates at nearby hotels. I was then left to drive around at 12:30am and personally beg other hotels to accept my rate I had at Hampton even though it was not being advertised online. Luckily my third stop did (the Econo Lodge just south of the Hampton). The next day I talked to the hotel manager. She was not very sympathetic. She was more worried about defending her hotel and the potential repercussions I'd started ("we've never had a problem and just so you know my stance, you've created a firestorm of panic with my guests."). Well I did tell my supervisor what happened since he had to know why I was not staying at our original hotel with the other 10 co workers now. He warned all of our co workers to be careful to search their rooms, so apparently that was me causing a panic. The manager had no sympathy that I threw away a pair of clothes and had to be up from 11p-1:30am and driving around looking for other hotels that wouldn't exceed my per diem. I was supposed to be worried about her having a room out of commission for 4-5 days and potential "panic" amongst her guests. Anyway, I wasn't blaming them for having the issue, but some apologies and heck even a voucher for one free night somewhere for my troubles of driving around at 1am and throwing away a set of clothes.

Checked in at Hampton Inn approximately 8:30 pm on 7/5/21. Staff was super friendly! Got to room with all luggage, went down to park car & bring in cooler. Returned to room and started to search bed (habit learned after reading about major outbreak a few years ago across the nation) moved pillows and there was a full grown bed bug (assuming full grown by size) I didn’t search further. Immediately went to front desk & asked if this has been a problem and was told, “it hasn’t been for quite some time.” Asked to move rooms to a different floor and as far away as possible. Front desk was very understanding & moved us with no problem. We were moved to a corner room on first floor. While I didn’t see any visible signs on the first floor, bed sheets did have some black spots. I was uncomfortable & nervous that bed bugs were throughout hotel (again I didn’t see an actual bug on first floor as I had upstairs) so I asked if we could be moved to a different hotel without being charged. Marcus was front desk clerk and was very kind, accommodating, & understanding. He assured me I would not be charged & proceeded to make a reservation for us at a nearby hotel. Very nervous bed bugs may have attached to clothes we were wearing as well as personnel items that were sitting on bed before finding the actual bed bug even though property on beds & furniture for about 20-30 minutes. Moved to hotel next door and pleased to say I could find no evidence of bed bugs at this hotel.
