I booked a room for two nights for a conference for Feb 4-6, 2016. I checked in and was given a room on the second floor. The first thing I noticed was the room was dark - poorly lit, black carpet and countertops and dark wood. I check the mattress like I usually do when I stay in a hotel and it looked clean. The next morning when I got up to put on my make-up, I noticed two maroon spots on the sheets. I thought maybe I just scratched myself in my sleep. Then I looked over and saw a bedbug moving on the sheet where I had been sleeping. I captured it and took it to show the staff and manager. The staff at front desk explained that the manager was not in, but moved me to another floor and made the arrangements to have my belongings cleaned. They told me that they had not had an incident of this type and they were uncertain of the hotel's policy. I found out later that two incidences have been reported, one specifically on the second floor. I was told the manager would contact me when he got in. After an hour, I went to the front desk to inquire about the manager and was told he was taking care of a matter on the roof. He then appeared and offered to comp me for just one of the two nights and my cleaning bill. Not once did the manager ever apologize. By the way, I did take videos and am willing to post if there is any question to my claims. Adding insult to injuiry, when I got my items back, the dry cleaner recommended by the hotel failed to return vital papers that were in my suitcase. I had to track them down. Needless to say, I will NEVER stay here again and will seriously consider staying at ANY Wingate, if this is their standard. BEWARE!
