My son and his girlfriend have been living here for the past 2 weeks. They came to visit me today and I noticed what looked like bug bites on his girlfriend's inside upper arm as she stretched and yawned. I asked, "Have you been scratching?" and that is when both told me that they have bed bugs where they are living. I asked my son if he had any bites and he said he had them on his back. I impressed upon them the importance of suddenly turning on the lights when they got home and pulling the covers back suddenly to see if they could spot bugs. They replied that they had already seen bugs and killed a few. I quickly got them 2 cans of bed bug spray and advised them to take the roll of clear plastic trash bags that I had and to wrap the mattress and take my thick, clear strapping tape and completely wrap the mattress and boxspring and to put all their personal belongings into these clear plastic trash bags as well and to keep them closed tight. I told them this would help keep the bugs at bay, at least while they sleep and to spray the carpet all under the bed and beside the bed. I told them that the rooms have to be heated to a certain temperature to kill bed bugs and this is expensive, but the only way to kill them and landlords usually do not want to pay for this to be done. In some cases the itching gets so bad that people cannot sleep and after a few nights begin to hallucinate. What an awful way to live and shame on the owners. Not even the decency to warn prospective tenants of the bed bug problem and mice also. We have yet to see if there are any roaches as well.
