Bedbug Reviews

I stayed at this hotel on Saturday October 2nd for one night. The hotel is very average in terms of cleanliness, room size, staff friendliness, etc. On Monday, I noticed some bites in clusters around my feet and ankles. I was immediately concerned about the possibility of bed bugs. On Tuesday morning, I called the hotel and asked to speak with the manager. He was unavailable so I spoke with the receptionist. I reported I'd received bites and wanted to request the room be inspected for evidence of bed bugs. From my knowledge, the best way to do this is with a trained dog who can scent the presence of the bugs. She told me I'd receive a call back. I did not. I called back on Wednesday morning and this time the general manager was in. He was immediately defensive about the fact that he hadn't called me back, saying that he hadn't gotten a chance to address the report yet. I was a little concerned about this as I imagine bed bugs are a pretty serious concern for most hotel proprietors and I'd probably jump on a complaint if I received one. He said he wasn't aware of any issues with bed bugs in his hotel, that they're quite common across all hotels, and that he would need to see pictures of my bites. I asked for information about the policy with notification, refunds, and compensation for the inspection I have to pay for in my own home. He didn't have any response to those questions, indicated there's no real policy, and that we should wait to discuss those things until the inspection could be completed. He called me back 30 minutes later to say he "tore apart the room" and found no evidence of bed bugs. He suggested that my bites probably were not bed bugs, and then even suggested I brought the bed bugs to his hotel (although denied there were bed bugs in the room...). It was clear based on the timing that he hadn't bothered to look into the report before that morning. I asked if he'd be doing a canine inspection as a visual inspection isn't really sufficient and he informed me he wouldn't be because they'd just proceed with treating the room. He was very clear that there were no bugs based on his inspection so I probably got them elsewhere (not possible). I pointed out that without a canine inspection, he couldn't really confirm that bugs were not present. He also was quick to tell me that because I booked through a third-party service, I wouldn't be able to receive a refund. When the third-party service requested the refund, he denied it from them as well. It's a small thing, but he never once apologized or indicated any human decency for the unfortunate stay in his property.
