Bedbug Reviews

Anonymous

Stayed at the Best Western Plus Agate Beach 9/3-9/4. The room they gave us was closest to the lobby front desk and laundry room, and smelled lightly like wet dog. Because of the noise my partner got up early- 5:30 am and while I was trying to fall back asleep I saw a bug crawling over his pillow. It sprang me awake and I pulled back the covers on both beds to reveal several bed bugs. I took videos and pictures, and ending up capturing the one I saw on the pillow because it was a rather big guy for a bedbug. After looking online and confirming it was indeed a bed bug my partner and I started speed cleaning, immediately putting everything into the laundry and getting into the showers. When I went to the front counter they told me they have never had pest problems ever (which a quick google search determined was a lie) and said that she would have someone check to confirm it was bed bugs. Her facial expression and attitude totally changed when I told her I had taken videos of the bugs and that I had caught one in a cup. They switched us rooms on a different floor, and the GM of the hotel met with us in the new room. He was careful to not use the word bed bugs- he used language like “it seems like the problem is what you think it is” and attributed the beg bug problem to “an uptick in foreign guests from out of country”- which I doubt is the issue, and frankly came off as racist. It’s a pet friendly hotel directly next to the beach that’s full of kids, but sure. He also reiterated that pest problems had never occurred there in the past. They ended up comping us for or room, but we are waiting for the refund because of booking through booking.com and not the hotel itself. We were given a $150 gift certificate to best western as well. We were not reimbursed for the laundry detergent or cost to use laundry facilities. I’ve never personally experienced beg bug bites before and it turns out I’m mildly allergic to them, so I’m in rough shape today. What bothers me most about this experience is on check out it was extremely busy with the counter staff noting that the hotel itself was going to be at near capacity because of two large events scheduled at the hotel. The amount of bugs and bite I’m now covered in makes me think that there was no way the hotel staff didn’t know this was an issue, and I bet they’re banking on other folks not noticing until it was too late.
