Stayed in room 330 at The Great Wolf Lodge February 13-16. Was in the room from about 5pm until 1:00 am, when I found and captured a live bed bug. There was a sweet musty odor in the room that sparked my radar. Looked at the bed with my iphone flashlight after feeding my baby. No one recieved any bites and we were immediately moved to a new room. All of our belongings were heat treated by the hotel. We were comped for the entire stay. They also provided a meal and new swim suits and clothing while ours were being treated. Took precautions and avoided bringing bed bugs home!!

We were so excited for our October break at GWL but were super disappointed to find two bedbugs crawling around our room on our first night 10/10/2025. Thankfully we didn’t sleep there yet, and all of our stuff was up but still. The staff was very accommodating and gave us a free refund/day passes as we stayed at a hotel 15 mins away. The fact that adult bedbugs were brazenly crawling the walls when we returned from the waterpark leads me to believe there are way more. Beware!

We checked in on 4/5/26. by 4/6 AM my mother asked my Aunt what was on her face (later on realized bed bug bites). My older kid found a bed bug in the afternoon of 4/6. I google lens searched it because I had never seen one before. Google confirmed. I called the front desk and a manager and head of engineering came up to the room and confirmed it. They heated treated all our stuff and sent us to a different room. Sounds fine, except it's not. I spent several hours for cumulative days at this point trying to ensure I wasn't going to bring any home. We live over 2,000 miles away and we were at the start of our vacation to visit family in Traverse City and Chicago. We missed family functions, elderly family visits, missed enjoyment spending time with my kids at the resort. Everything was a major domino effect for our trip. I had to find a laundromat, spent 4 hours total doing laundry because our heat-treated stuff was coming to us in phases (hotel wouldn't do personal laundry). My aunt had tons of bites everywhere. I now have 37 bites and counting. They refunded our room only. Then when I inquired about laundry costs they decided to refund parking. Gee thanks. I lost about 6 hours of time at the resort. I could not see my elderly family member which was most of the purpose of being there. I missed my uncle's 70th birthday celebration, and because my Aunt also got bit up, the whole thing was cancelled while she took care of her things that got exposed. By the time I arrived back home on the 12th, I spent the entire day trying to go through everything and treat everything because I was not about to risk an infestation in my house costing me thousands. Penny pinching to refund only the room cost, and then saying "oh well we'll also refund parking" when I said I had to spend money doing 4 loads of laundry at a laundromat is a bit of a cheapskate thing to do, considering this isn't a regular hotel where you just go to sleep. Yet, I was stuck dealing with recovering all of our things in phases for heat treatment, washing, and repacking everything for me and my kids and my mother. They did provide clothes to my mom who had nothing to wear, thankfully. We didn't get a chance to eat dinner until 930PM that night with small children because of having to get all the laundry done before the laundromat closed since we were checking out the following morning. Then we had to go BACK there to finish 2 more loads when they opened the next morning so we could leave and go on to Chicago where the rest of our family was waiting for us. I was initially impressed with the response, but in hindsight...not really. They didn't consider our situation where we do not live in driving distance, we flew, and we were not going straight home. To be cheap with the refunds was also a turn off. I get it, no one wants people to run up a bill. However, the inconvenience was not minor for our situation. It greatly impacted the entire purpose of us even being in Michigan to begin with. The medical staff promised to call my Aunt last week about her bites. They never did.
