2. Check under the box spring.
3. Lift up each headboard an lay it on the bed. Carefully inspect the hole where the headboard was lifted out of. Also, inspect all niches and corners of the headboard.
4. If you decide to stay in the hotel, do not put any clothes in dressers. Keep them in your luggage and your dirty clothes in plastic bags.

Was up just before dawn, checking my email on my tablet. All room lights were off, so the tablet light was the only light in the room. Covers up just below my chest and I see a flat, brown bug with 6 legs crawl past the area where the tablet and the covers meet. Few seconds later, another bug. I capture and examine the bugs. Did a google search and got a spot on match to a bed bug. Hotel sent an inspector and switched me to another room.
