07/23/18 We stayed in The Garden Cottage. We reserved this a couple of months ahead of time. The cottage has 1 Queen size bed, 1 Full size bed and 4 bunk beds. There were Bedbugs in all the mattresses, in the seams on the edges of the mattresses. These were Full sized Bedbugs, not tiny new ones. There were also egg casings. (Pictures taken) We contacted the owner who promptly came to the cottage. She was shown the Bedbugs. She then picked them up, kept them in her hand and pulled out the two Bedbugs that were taken off the Queen size bed, thrown into the toilet in a tissue. We were given our money back, but were also told not to say anything to other guest because she would have to check the other cabins if the guest knew. My family has gone to these cottages for a long time, I am saddened by all of this, but when checking the bunk beds there were someone’s old contacts laying next to the top bunk bed, (pictures taken) thick dust and the Bedbugs. We had children sleeping in these beds! Not one mattress had plastic mattresses protectors. You provide your own mattress covers and pillow cases. This ruined our vacation, cost us quite a bit of money, and have young children with Bedbug bites. I would not write this, but the odd behavior of the owner was just bizarre. I feel if they would have taken 5 minutes to check the mattresses upon the departure of the people who were in there before us, (they probably had no clue of the bed bugs) this could have been prevented! And to be told we are the first people to say anything is sad. As a owner, it is their responsibility to provide a clean environment in the cottages.
