My husband, young daughter and I pulled into the parking lot of a Quality Inn in Seymour Indiana. I was concerned by the appearance of the hotel and decided to check if it was listed on any sites related to bed bugs. It turned out it was listed but the reports were 2 years old and there was a “Now Open” sign, indicating that they may have closed at some point to take care of the issue. We adopted a let’s see what we find attitude. We asked the front desk about the bed bug reports and were assured that they had been sprayed for and taken care of 2 weeks ago and were no longer a problem. We took that information with a grain of salt and went to check out the room. My husband and I stripped the sheets and used a blow-dryer set on hot along the edges of each bed to attempt to force any bed bugs from hiding. We waited. None crawled into view, so we put the bedding back together and got ready for bed. We put our daughter to bed and about 30 minutes later were reading when my husband noticed a bug crawling on the side of the bed. Comparing the bug to pics found online confirmed it was indeed an adult bed bug. My husband caught the bug using a plastic cup from the bathroom and a piece of paper and carried it down to show the front desk. While he was gone I pulled back the sheet that was covering our daughter and found two small bed bugs that had already fed on her. I squished them on the bed, leaving bloody spots larger than their bodies behind on the sheet. When my husband returned he said the new attendant was very apologetic. They offered to move us to a different room in the hotel and when he said no they then refunded our money as requested. Before leaving we found two more, an adult and a baby, inside a hotel pillow case. We booked a different hotel, packed up and left immediately.
