May 2019: over 100 bites on 2 adults and 1 child This was one of the worst experiences of my life. I had some really bad bites on my arm, which I thought might be mosquito bites. But when my husband had bites, we started doing research and then started looking for bed bugs. There were many bed bug shells behind the headboard, and we found live bed bugs hiding in the mattress. We immediately called the front desk who sent out the maintenance man to see what to do. The maintenance man was very kind to us, but unfortunately King’s Creek had NO written policy about what to do with a bed bug incident. This is where a bad situation became a nightmare. We had to change units at 11pm at night and wash everything in hot water to avoid transference. No one could tell me what to do with all of my dry clean only clothing...I didn’t want to ruin it in hot water! The largest mistake that was made...they said the infestation was only in our bedroom and we didn’t have to disinfect anything in our children’s room (which was across the hall) or anywhere else...guess what? WRONG!!! We found out AFTER receiving the ORKIN report that they confirmed bed bugs in both our bedroom and my children’s bedroom! I became panicked that we had transferred eggs or bugs with their items because we were told not to disinfect their items (only ours). I spent the majority of the remainder of our vacation replacing items that could not be washed in hot water, disinfecting, cleaning, and researching how to not bring these bugs home with us. The worst experience was with Wanda, the president of the organization. She made a bad situation traumatic. She asked how we could be such idiots to stay in the room 3 days without realizing the bites were from bed bugs! We have never encountered bed bugs before...how were we suppose to know? Wanda was extremely rude, interrupting my husband multiple times. She was also not helpful at all! We had to fight for ANY help we received. The hotel had thermal bags to disinfect luggage, but NO ONE offered it to us. We found out about them ourselves by reading over paperwork and then had to spend 30 min. asking for them (no one knew where they were). We finally had access to them on the last night of our vacation from 6pm-2am...not how we wanted to spend the last night of our vacation. Please do not stay here...it is not worth ruining your vacation and the after effects of fretting over disinfecting all of your things.
