On February 5th, I awoke in the middle of the night (around 2:00am) to terrible burning and itching sensations on my back. Went to the bathroom, removed my shirt and saw around 6-7 huge welts on my back which were very painful and itchy. Didn't know what had caused immediately, but thought I was maybe somehow stung by a bee (I'm allergic) or got attacked by a spider. Sprawled the shirt I was wearing on the floor and used my phone flashlight to search the shirt and found a bed bug on the shirt (which had been worn to bed the previous night as well and was sitting out on the bed during the day). Packed up my items (which were luckily substantially unpacked to begin with), searched for a new hotel (and reviewed all bed bug reports first) and went downstairs to inform the front desk that I needed to check out early and that they had bed bugs. The girl at the front desk asked if I was sure and I saw the bug and I showed her the picture I took of the bug on my shirt and explained the welts. She was apologetic (although not her fault). She went to get her manager who asked if i just wanted another room and I calmly explained that I just wanted to check out. He apologized and said he would add 5000 points to my Marriott account. I have previously stayed here around 10 times a year for the past two years and my company has many people stay here, but I will never stay again.
