First, a note that this hotel has been rebranded as a Baymont by Wynham. The property in question is a former Ramada location at 1 Abby Lane in Queensbury, NY. Most of the branding inside the hotel still says Ramada. My wife and I were bitten by bed bugs at this hotel on Saturday night/Sunday morning September 15-16, 2018. We checked in late (about 11pm), and although we immediately saw that the hotel was subpar (scuffs on the walls, everything looks worn, not very clean), we decided to stay anyway given a lack of options. We didn't see any obvious signs of bed bugs (we had them at home a few years ago so know what to look for) and the mattress looked brand new. I woke up shortly before before 5am and felt something moving behind my ear, so I instinctively reached back and grabbed the object causing the sensation. I placed it on the sheet next to me and shined a light on it with my phone; I saw that it was an adult bed bug, but it scurried away before I could grab it again or take a picture. I woke my wife and we examined the bed, finding several juvenile bugs engorged with blood clinging to the pillows. There was also a fresh blood smear near my pillow that probably came from the bug I removed. I have photos of one of the small bugs and the smear. We knew we had to leave, so we immediately showered, packed and went to the front desk to complain. One of the worst parts of this experience was the response from the night desk clerk (the same guy who had checked us in was still there). When we told him that we had been bitten by bed bugs and asked for a refund, he very obviously pretended to be surprised and told us that he was not authorized to reverse the charges. He told us we would have to contact corporate to request a refund. When we asked him to put something in writing documenting our complaint, he said, "Let me see if I can override that," and within two minutes he had refunded us for our stay. He then apologized and told us that in fact theyRebecca experienced issues with bed bugs in the past and that dusts/powders seemed to be the best way to get rid of them. He also gave us large garbage bags to isolate our belongings for the trip home. We did call corporate the next day to file a complaint, and they had the local manager call us back. He claimed to know nothing about our situation, indicating that the night clerk must not have reported it to him. He also acted surprised and said they had just replaced all the mattresses three months ago—which of course is not by itself a solution to a bed bug infestation. He offered to refund our stay (which had already been done) and offered us 50% off on any future stays there. Needless to say, we will not be taking him up on that offer and will stay as far away as possible from this poorly managed and maintained property. My wife is extremely sensitive to all kinds of bug bites and has strong reactions to them. Each bite is clearly visible on her, but it takes anywhere from a few hours to two days for her bites to swell and become apparent. It's now a bit more than 24 hours after we left, and she has over 20 red, swollen, blistery welts that are weeping clear liquid. I'm the complete opposite, I don't react at all, so I can't say how many times I was bitten. We have several photos of her bites, you can find them on my wife's review of the hotel on Trip Advisor (currently pending approval). I plan to write reviews on other sites as well.
