Recommended tips after hotel check-in:
1. Pick up the mattresses in the rooms and look under it. Check around the edges of the box springs.
2. Check under the box spring.
3. Lift up each headboard an lay it on the bed. Carefully inspect the hole where the headboard was lifted out of. Also, inspect all niches and corners of the headboard.
4. If you decide to stay in the hotel, do not put any clothes in dressers. Keep them in your luggage and your dirty clothes in plastic bags.

Just rented room for first month. Got my belongings into room, but did not stay in room for about 5 days. The first night, I went over room and cleaned all furniture and brought bedding for first time. After getting established and getting ready for bed, while room is not cluttered. I noticed a bug crawling across my pillow. I looked on wall above bed and saw more similar bugs of different sizes darting around. Biggest one was size of apple seed. I immediately called landlord and reported problem. She said that tenants just left that room and never reported problem and residence isn't known for a bed bug me problem but has had a history. I collected a few I smashed in bag. Left room within minutes. I haven't stayed one night in room yet so I have no bites, but I've never seen these bugs before until about 2am my first night attempting to stay. I will report it to housing inspectors of Waterloo if unresolved.
