May 15, 2022. Woke in the very early morning to the feeling something moving between the sheets and my forearm. Turned the light on and reflexively killed a bug (adult bed bug size). Having had a bed bug experience during in the prior year I proceeded to search the bed and found a very small blood-filled bug (juvenile) crawling on the sheets, captured it alive, and provided both to the check-out clerk in the morning. We zip-locked bagged out night clothes (until they could be washed) and knew to keep luggage off the floor and sleeping/sitting furniture when we checked in. Bites on the back of my neck were evident that morning and the rest erupted, head to toe, over the next couple of days; 25 total and my wife had about a dozen. The delayed appearance of the bites is typical. Mine were quite uncomfortable and many formed blisters even after treating with hydrocortisone cream. The mattress was not in a fully zipped enclosure which gives bed bugs more places to hide/lay eggs along the mattress seam. Fortunately, we have had no further "encounters" on this trip. The manager called me that day, refunded the IHG points used, and said he was calling and exterminator. Frankly, that is not near enough compensation for my degree of discomfort, lost sleep, and my diligence in helping him identify the problem that can spread out of control.
