Bedbug Reviews

Anonymous

On July 29, 2018 we got a room for two days at Bayside hotel in Mackinac city. We received a hotel room for a Lakeview which I paid extra for. In the middle of the night I woke up feeling something on me and I found a small bug on me. I immediately flung it off. My daughter, who was sleeping in the bed next to me, woke up the next morning with bites all over her. I too had bites on me. As the day progressed on the 30th, we found numerous bites all over us and they swelled up continuously throughout the day. I had some on my Face and around my neck which began to swell up and my eyelid became very big. It looked as if someone hit me in the face. We asked the front desk to thoroughly clean the room in the morning but after seeing all the swelling and all the bites all over us throughout the day we asked the front desk to get us a different room. They told us that they were fully booked. I showed the woman all the swelling and all the bites all over me and she then found two rooms for us to choose from (both not providing the lakeview I paid for.) I told her we will take the room that’s On the same floor as our room so that we did not have to move everything so late at night to a different level. We received a room with a view of the parking lot which Would have costed less than what I paid for and the first thing we were greeted with when we walked in the room was a very large insect on the wall. The room was poorly cleaned, lacked a microwave, and the toilet wobbled when you sat on it and leaked when flushed. Unfortunately we did not sleep well as the night brought about repeated uncomfortableness from the bites. In the morning on July 31st, the bites still showed heavy swelling. I called the front desk and asked them to come up to see me as I did not want to go down to the front desk or breakfast area where all the other guests staying there would have seen me and inquired about all the bites. The lady from the front desk came to the room immediately, took one look at me, and said she will have her manager come see me at 9:30 when he got there. At 10:00 I called again as I had not heard from the manager. They transferred me to him and he said he checked the room and bed and there were no bugs and we couldn’t have them anyway because they don’t bite the face and there would be multiple bites from them in one spot. He stated I must have had an allergic reaction to something but he did not actually physically see me. I told him there were multiple ones in one spot and I felt and saw a bug crawl on me during the middle of the night. I asked for a refund as we were going to have to cut our vacation trip early due to this and he once again said it wasn’t bed bugs and he would not refund any money. After returning the keys, the lady at the front desk once again apologized profusely and also gave me The corporate office number and a nearest place to go to get checked out medically as I had asked. As I left, a family saw me and immediately was concerned by the bites all over me. I told them what had happened and the man said you should go get your money back because that is not right. I then did go to the suggested place in Mackinaw to seek medical advice because the bites were swelling more and puss was oozing out of them, but they said to go to an urgent care in Indian River as it was the closest on my way home. When I walked into the urgent care in Indian river, the nursing staff there was very concerned and said I hope this did not occur at one of our local motels. The doctor analyzed both my bites and my daughters and said without question the bites were confirmed as bed bug bites. She also showed me a picture of a bed bug and it was identical to the bug that I saw on me the night before. She told me to go to a nearby pharmacy and pick up some anti-itch cream and Benadryl. We then had to go and wash all clothes and bags in high heat and bag up anything that couldn’t be washed for a while to ensure there are no bugs that climbed into our stuff. My bites became infected and that is why the puss was coming out. The swelling persisted overnight and my daughter and I visited our family doctor who also confirmed they were bed bug bites and prescribed antibiotics for the infection. Pictures have been taken of the numerous bites as well as the large insect on the wall.
