November 1, 2016 to Nov 5, 2016My fiancé and I were traveling to Groveland Florida for a week and chose this red roof to stay in because we had our dog. I had flown in 2 days later then him so he had been there 2 days before me. On my first morning there I noticed a had a bunch of bites on my shoulder and back and a lot of them. My fiancé didn't have any so I thought maybe it was mosquitos. The only problem is we live in NJ and I NEVER react to mosquitos no matter how many times I've been bit. As the day went on we noticed my bites were very raised and had a whitish head on them unlike any mosquito bit I'd ever seen. Also, I've been coming to Florida since I was a little girl and have NEVER seen anything like the bites I have. We went back that night slept & while showering the next morning I noticed I had bites EVERYWHERE! Places no mosquito ever goes and they were all in sets of 3. All over my back, my face and chin, my other shoulder and back of arms, my legs, my feet and the worst on my butt SO GROSS. I started to get worried but my fiancé still didn't have bites. We went to the event we were attending and while there a friend of ours approached to speak with us. Our friend is a "bug chemist" and studies behaviors, life cycles etc of all bugs. He approached me and said, I could be completely wrong but you look like you are covered in bed bug bites." I was mortified and sickened immediately. I went to my fiancé and told him and knew something was different about these bites. Anyway, once we were able to leave we headed right to the hotel and began checking the room. Immediately we saw small scattered blood spots all along the sides of the mattress. Some old some very brown and new. Our friend told us in order to know if the spots we find are blood vs. dirt spray a little water or cleaner on it to see if it spreads. Dirt wouldn't spread but wetting blood makes it spread. So that's what we did & sure enough it was all blood. Now let me say this without being insulting. If a woman or women were on that bed that happened to have their so called, " monthly friend" and they spotted while sleeping yes there'd be blood but it would be on the mattress, in the middle, maybe at the top or bottom if she slept funny. BUT NOT ON THE SIDES OF THE MATTRESS! Then we pulled the mattress topper completely off and the strap that goes under the bed to hold it on was covered in small scattered blood spots. We found what looked to be a skin shedding. Almost like a bug left it's skin shell behind and then more in the night stand. We also found blood spots and 2 very small reddish black dead bugs. The cleaning guy said, oh we just replaced all this stuff in this room there can't be bugs!! Well I think they tried to clean up what had been a bed bug infestation w a new bed and headboard. However, left behind a lot of bed bugs. My fiancé and I had to leave our luggage and anything that couldn't go into a drier. We spent $200 on laundry bags to protect all our shoes, money at the laundry mat, had to buy duffle bags to put our clothes in once washed and dried and then find a new room that accepted dogs. All I can say is this sucked. I'm sure the other rooms are fine because our friends stayed & had no bugs. However, room 127 was infested and that's not ok. These bugs destroy lives and cost a lot of money to get rid of. I hope this hotel gets cleaned up because I was definitely eaten alive. Oh and we also found out my fiancé probably isn't allergic to their saliva hence why he didn't show bites. And that clearly I'm allergic which is actually great. Because had I not been allergic to their bites we would have taken all our stuff and them home with us. In he end after some push back & disbelief they reviewed our photos and videos and agreed our money should be returned. However let me say, Corporate red roof returned the money the management staff at the hotel were horrible. They wanted us to stay there until the next morning when a manger could arrive w a "black light." Then basically said that was the only room they had and was just down right inconsiderate. Just check your room!
