The motel is nothing fancy, but I try not to let that keep me from staying at little mom and pop places to try to give non-chains a chance to survive. Even though the room was all kinds of unclean, after checking the mattress for any signs of bedbugs and finding no evidence, I climbed in. Not 20 minutes later I glanced at the space between the pillow and headboard only to find a half dozen or so bedbugs milling about. When I leapt up, all but one retreated over the edge of the mattress at the wall end. One persistent son of a *edited* continued to circle the expanse of the bed looking for me and my blood. A call to the front desk resulted in an argument where I was told I had to stay in the room until the manager arrived so I could prove myself. I only stayed as long as it took to not vomit, gather my things, and get the hell out of there.
