Checked in on December 25th, 2022. Checked out on Dec 29th. Arrived late due to 2 days of flight cancellation/delays. Was put in room 410. Room seemed ok as far as cleanliness however the hotel did still have in place a no-service covid policy and you could tell that it was suffering some on that front. Slept the first night fine, however my wife woke up the next morning with a welt/hive on her thumb and a bump on her face. I didn't have any issues that surfaced. The bumps continued to swell during the next day. At first it appeared to be allergic reaction to something and since I didn't appear to have any issues we tried to get some benadryl and try to treat the itching. The next day more hives start showing up on my wife's legs, chest and arms. Again, I had no visible symptoms.. We pulled the mattress up and the sheets and did not see any bugs or droppings/etc, We did see one small blood spot on the lower fitted sheet but could tell if it was fresh or not. So we assumed again that it was an allergy. More and more welt/hives showed up after that but we couldn't figure out what was going on and I didn't notice any spots on me. This went on over our stay until we checked out on Dec 29, 2022. When we got home we immediately went to a dermatologist, who told us my wife either had bed bugs or scabies (a parasitic mite) and when she examined me, we saw lots of bites up my back that had just started to surface and swell. We took anti-parasitic pills to address scabies and took a biopsy to confirm the cause. over the course of the next 2-5 days my wife was tortured with the hives and itching and the bites got larger. Also raised red spots surfaced up my back and down my legs. I had a delayed reaction to the issue (I'm not allergic to anything). We both took antihistamines to suppress the itching and dressed the spots with a cream the doctor had prescribed. The biopsy came back as bed bugs. Its been over a month now and the bites are still visible. It took a solid 4 weeks for the bites to heal. Also once the swelling went down, you could clearly see the bug bite trails. Both my wife and I have traveled extensively for over 50 years (I was an Army brat and traveled too) and never has this happened to us. We have stayed in the Hendersonville Holiday Inn Express before with no issues. However this is one of those things that will prevent me from ever staying there again. My wife contacted the gm and was told they'd inspect the room and compensate us for the issue (room credit). However we've seen no results from the inspection or any compensation and the GM no longer responds.
