A friend and I stayed at Hotel Alice on October 8, 2022 and found BED BUGS and DIRTY SHEETS in our room! Formerly Hampton Inn Suites Atlantic Beach It was the granola bar wrapper found IN MY BED at 5:00 AM that triggered me to take a closer look at the sheets. That's when we found BED BUGS crawling on top of, in between and under the DIRTY SHEETS! We also found BLOOD STAINING and on the sheets characteristic of bed bugs and one molted skin/shell. Our long weekend at the beach became a nightmare. We packed up and left immediately, cutting our trip short by one night. The front desk staff was nice enough about it but could not refund our credit cards because only the hotel manager can authorize refunds. We asked that the manager call us but have yet to receive a call from him. After repeatedly calling the hotel and receiving different excuses for why the manager hadn't called us or wasn't in the office, we received a call from a staff member saying that our refund had been authorized but it could take up to five business days to show up on our account. This incident caused us so much stress. We had to heat treat and wash everything that we took into the room....our bags, clothing, toiletries, shoes, etc. Everything had to be treated and my car cleaned from top to bottom to reduce the risk of bringing BED BUGS or their eggs into our homes. We asked the hotel manager to refund our expenses for BED BUG spray, Clorox wipes, garbage bags, laundromat costs, etc. We provided receipts for those expenses but have received NO RESPONSE. We reported this incident to the Carteret County Health Department.
