On April 18, 2019, my family and I had just returned to our room after spending the day in Monterey. We all showered and went to bed. We were watching a movie and at about 11pm, My son noticed a bug crawling on his sheet. I went over with my cell phone flash light and realized it was a bed bug. I got a piece of toilet paper and picked up and quickly took it to the front office. The bug was still alive and one of the attendants said it maybe a tick. I googled images of bed bugs and we agreed it was in fact a bed bug. No manager was on staff that night. I was not offered another room because they were sold out. After they consulted with the manger by phone they offered to book me a room at another location. However I was disgusted and paranoid, I decided to cut our vacation short. My family and I quickly packed up and drove over 2 hours home. The front office attendants were very nice and apologized and assured that this has not happened in the past year she had worked there. They gave me plastic bags to cover our luggage. I inspected the room before we left and I noticed both bottom box springs under the bed skirt, had mattress covers that were torn. Upon arriving, I had only inspected the top mattress and failed to inspect the bottom box spring. Lesson learned!!! When we got home, I took proper precautions and washed all of our clothing that we were wearing in hot water & dried it in hot temperature. The rest of the items were left in the garage and in plastic bags. Today we placed them in the sun. Today my son woke up with a welted rash on his hands, feet and arms. I took him to urgent are and the doctor confirmed it was an allergic reaction to bed bug bites. I am still waiting for the manager to call me.
