I checked in to room 515 of the Hyatt Lakeland Center on Sunday Dec 15, 2019. After a short stop at the front desk, I made my way to the room and soon after, went to sleep (11pm). I had never previously woken up for this reason - however, at about 3am, I was woken by a feeling of itchiness in several parts of my body. I had an itchy spot on my foot, on my neck, and on my hand. After initially having thought that I woke up just because I was feeling hot, I looked at these spots and saw some redness. Right away, I got out of bed suspecting the worst. Just as I got out of bed, I saw a small insect crawling through the center of the bedsheet - the spot that I had just gotten out of. Through some combination of being half asleep as well as in shock, I didn’t have the mind to take a photo of the bug. I didn’t want to take any chances and so proceeded to dial the front desk but the room phone wouldn’t dial. I packed the few belongings that I had unpacked a few hours ago and proceeded down to the front desk. I was torn between just going to another hotel but the lack of nearby taxis meant that I requested (and got) an alternative room. I moved to room 101 and went to sleep - this time, tense that I will find something else on the bed. After 3 hours of sleep, I had to wake up for a meeting that I was in here to attend. For the next few days, I felt bites appear on patches of skin throughout my body. The pattern of the bites (clusters in the same area) made me sure that these were bed bugs. Before re-entering my home, I had to dispose all my personal property (luggage, clothes, shoes, etc.) that was with me at the Hyatt Place Lakeland. There is no way I would take any chances and bring this in to my home. At this point, I’ve lost property worth about $1,000. The Hyatt Place Lakeland is an older hotel. I don’t see myself ever being able to stay at this type of a Hyatt Place anymore. It’s left too much of a bad memory for me.
