Recommended tips after hotel check-in:
1. Pick up the mattresses in the rooms and look under it. Check around the edges of the box springs.
2. Check under the box spring.
3. Lift up each headboard an lay it on the bed. Carefully inspect the hole where the headboard was lifted out of. Also, inspect all niches and corners of the headboard.
4. If you decide to stay in the hotel, do not put any clothes in dressers. Keep them in your luggage and your dirty clothes in plastic bags.

On 10/31/20 I had a reservation at the Westin VA Beach. I checked in a little past midnight so it was 11/01/20 by the time I checked in. I took a shower and got into bed. To my surprise I was getting itchy and when I turned on the lights, I realized I had bed bugs. I immediately called the front desk to inform them and checked out of the hotel. I took pics of the bed bugs and my bites. I also contacted Marriott customer service by email and their response was: "I would like to sincerely apologize for what you have experienced while staying with us. It is most certainly not normal circumstances to have our guest to encounter pests of any sort nor does it speak to our very high standards of cleanliness. Rest assured, we have taken all of the necessary steps to correct this issue so it may not occur again." I decided to report them to the VA Beach Health Department on 11/10/20 just to make sure they get inspected.
