My son and I had reservations at the Red River Inn & Suites in Fargo, ND for July 27 - July 29. When we checked in the lobby appeared clean and tidy and the desk staff was friendly and polite. We got our keys and left for activities. When I returned to the room a few hours later I hauled all of our items into the room and began to settle in. When I went to sit on the bed to read I thought the pillow cases looked maybe not fresh - they seemed to have a lot of wrinkles that I assumed would have come out with laundering. After having a very dirty hotel room in a high end hotel a few years ago I began to inspect the pillows and sheets pulling the covers back. They appeared clean but I was still a bit suspicious; I pulled the covers back up and sat down to read. Just as I sat down, movement caught my eye and I saw a reddish bug scurry along the bedspread a foot from me. I jumped off of the bed and brushed it away from me. I ran for a tissue and thankfully it was still there so I could catch it and squish it in a tissue. Not being from the area I wasn't sure if it was just a regional insect that came in through an open door so I googled 'insects in Fargo, ND' and images of bed bugs were the first thing to come up - which looked exactly like what I found! I took pictures of it and then brought the tissue down to the front desk. Thankfully there was no one in the lobby. I waited for the attendant to finish on the phone. He turned to me to ask if he could help me and I told him I was kind of freaking out because I found what I thought was a bed bug in my room. He looked as shocked as I was. I told him exactly what happened and then I handed him the tissue with the bug as well as showed him the images on my phone. He took the tissue, put it in a cup and taped paper over the top labeled, "bug". He cancelled the charges on my reservation and I evacuated the room immediately after that.
