I always check the room for evidence of bed bugs after I check-in and did the same on 03/29/2024 when I arrived. Everything looked very clean, not a spec of anything that would call out "bed bug". I stayed up late and around 1AM on 03/30/2024 I flipped back my bed covers to go use the bathroom and there was a single bed bug sitting on the bottom of the cover I just flipped up. I caught it in a plastic case, took pictures of it (so I could magnify and be sure it was a bed bug) and it was 100% a bed bug. I checked the room again and could find no evidence of other bed bugs or residue. I suspect that maybe the traveler before me brought it in and either it was a male or there hadn't been enough time for an infestation. I know it did not arrive with me since there are no bed bugs at my house and I had not stayed at a hotel with my suitcase since 09/2023. I gave the bed bug in the plastic case to the manager who immediately had the front desk employee take the room out of service and without being asked, refunded all room charges. I was as happy as can be with the resolution (since I still had to decontaminate all my belongings), the only thing I thought they could have done better is to apologize that I had to go through that ordeal to begin with.
