Please do not say, bedbug free. I wasn't going to make a report, but when I saw that the Hampton Inn in Cortland, New York was listed as “bed bug free”, I just had to reply. It should be listed as -- no bed bugs reported -- because it is DEFINITELY NOT BED BUG FREE. At this hotel on the night of September 7, 2018 I was extremely tired went into a sound sleep. My sleep kept being disturbed by stinging and itching to my hands, face, and neck. I finally just had to get up to see what was going on. When I realized I had bug bites I started examining the bed and the headboard. I saw something that I thought might be a bug nestled on the headboard, so I went to the bathroom and got a tissue and mashed down on what might be a bug. When I looked at the tissue it had blood on it and the dead bug. I then lifted the pillow I had been sleeping on and saw another bug under it, which I immediately smashed. I tried to examine the rest of the bed, but found no other bugs. This happened at around 1:00 a.m. and I didn't sleep the rest of the night. The next morning I reported it. I wasn't sure what kind of bugs they were, until I showed the gentleman at the desk the pictures I took. His expression said it all. He said it was not typical of their hotel and I agreed to move to another room where I had no problem with that room for the next two nights of my stay. I was bitten about six or seven times, and immediately started having a reaction. One bite was right under my eye, another over the eyebrow of the same eye, several on my neck, and one on the back of each hands. All these areas started to swell. By the second morning my eye was almost swollen shut. I started taking double doses of Benadryl tablets. My friends wanted to take me to an Urgent Care center, but I didn't want to interfere with their visit and the Benadryl seemed to be working. I was not changed for the stay. It took more than a full week for the swelling to go down. I am still having flashbacks, it's just awful!!! I have stayed at many Hampton Inn’ and never had a problem. And I'm not saying not to stay at this one, but check the bed and headboard carefully. Something that I failed to do. Please do not say, bedbug free.
