On Saturday 03/31/12 my Daughter and I who is seven years old, where looking forward to our vacation at Summer Bay Resort because this was her first time traveling. Everything was going well, we would get up every day at 8:10 and go to the Amusement Parks. A few days later I had noticed a couple of bites on my daughter and myself but assumed that they were mosquito bites. I put anti-itch cream on them and thought nothing of it. However by the time I realized that they could not be mosquito bites it was to late. There were just too many on both my seven year old and I. My daughter received the majority of the bites and was in an abundant amount of pain. I decided to take a closer look at them and I noticed lots of big swollen clusters of bites, which oozed out liquid. Assuming the worst and hoping for the best I decided to search on the computer for bed bug bites. When comparing the bites and the symptoms to what I had found online I knew that there was no way these bites were from a mosquito. After searching the bed I found one dead bed bug on the bed. There was another one near my daughters shoes on the carpet, I scooped them up in a plastic bag to show it to the manager. When arriving at the front desk I explained to the lady that I needed to speak to a manager. She then called the security guard and had me explain to him what had happen. I show him the two bed bugs I found and he then asked me to fill out a form in order to state what happened. Mean while, I am told them that I needed to get my seven year old to a doctor because she had the majority of the bites and was in a lot of pain. So I wait for them to call the manager because there is no manager there and the doctor office is not open until 9:00 a.m. all the while I had to watch my daughter suffer in pain. I finally talk with the manager and he says he does not need to see the bed bugs. I show him my daughter who is crying from the pain all over her body. I let him know I to have been bitten but that my main concern is my daughter and getting her to the doctor. Finally we arrive at the doctor’s office and his diagnosis is bed bug bites. He gives me a letter determining that the bites are in fact from bed bugs and he then tells me they need to change my room. He sent me to the pharmacy to purchase antibiotics for my daughter. I got her calamine lotion and Benadryl. I return to the manager’s office only to deal with another manager I did not know. This manager tells me that the security guard who is well trained in finding bed bugs did not find any bed bugs so I show him the doctors letter of diagnosis and my daughters bites when looking at her he says wow! He then asks for copy of the letter and they then proceeded to offer to put me in another room and to steam clean my clothes and luggage so that it will kill the bed bugs. I was then told by the manager they needed to get the experts to fumigate the room and determine whether or not the bugs in the room where indeed bed bugs. Then the manager asked when I was leaving and I told him Saturday and he said they would get in contact with you when you’re in Chicago after we make our determination for the bed bugs. Never did they ask to pay for my daughter’s doctor bill despite the fact that the Doctor determined that the bites where in fact bed bug bites. The whole situation was handled in a very unprofessional manner.
