We've stayed at this motel the year before and were very pleased. Stayed again, August 12-16 and ended up with about 18 bites, and then some from the other bed too. I thought at first they were mosquito bites, but there were too many and in funny clusters. I also react differently to a mosquito bite. They tend to get hot and swell up. The bites were extremely itchy for days after our trip home so I started to get nervous about how strange the bites looked and did some web sleuthing. Much to my horror I realized they had to be bedbugs. I went to the dermatologist to confirm and then contacted the motel. They, or course denied having a problem. ( I have photos of my bites. ) This was on a Friday and I asked to have the manager call me when he was supposed to return to work the next Tuesday. I also told them that they shouldn't let other people in that room, but it was already rented out. After reading about how very hard it is to get rid of bugs, and how expensive it was to try to exterminate them, I was very upset. I washed everything in site and promptly bought special, very expensive mattress covers that seals everything in and also prevents anything from escaping out of them too. By Friday of that week I had not heard back from them. I have posted warnings on a few other sites and only learned of this one while reading about bedbugs in the news. The management finally contacted me (after reading my review in Yelp) at first telling people not to let my review sway them, and then finally contacting me through yelp to apologize (but that was all, just an apology) and saying that they would keep an eye on that room. For over $100 per night, I think I deserved more than an apology. I spent about $400 in products to try to insure that I didn't bring these things home, not to mention that I am now traumatized by the fear of bringing them home. There is no reason to keep an eye on that room. It HAS bedbugs and the problem is not just going to go away by pretending it doesn't exist. I told them they need to bring in a PROFESSIONAL exterminator to take care of the problem. They said they just recently replaced all their mattresses and carpeting ( I wonder why ), but that doesn't help the present problem. This is not a cheesy motel, but a very nice place that I used to like a lot. I will not be staying there ever again, and feel sad for people that will be exposed to these pests. The worst part is bringing them home by accident and then having to deal with the tons of work and expense in order to get rid of them.
